Fort McMurray, Alberta – Brian Jean, MP for Fort McMurray-Athabasca, will present Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medals on June 24th to deserving long-time residents of Northern Alberta.
The presentation ceremony at Heritage Park will be followed by a Queen's Jubilee tea. All Fort McMurray residents are invited. Pre-registration for the tea can be done through Heritage Park's website. There is no admission but guests are asked to pre-register and dress appropriately for a Queen's garden tea.
The new commemorative medal was created to mark the 2012 celebrations of the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the Throne as Queen of Canada. The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal is a tangible way for Canada to honour Her Majesty for her service to this country. At the same time, it serves to honour significant contributions and achievements by Canadians.
Eligibility criteria for medal recipients are:
- being a Canadian citizen or resident of Canada,
- making a significant contribution to a particular province, territory, region or community within Canada, or an achievement abroad that brings credit to Canada; and
- being alive on February 6, 2012, the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty’s accession to the Throne.
