MP Brian Jean announces post secondary funding

FORT McMURRAY — Brian Jean, MP announced today that local post secondary institutions will receive Government of Canada investment of over $11 million through the Knowledge Infrastructure Program.

Athabasca University’s Open Knowledge Environment Project received $3.825 million, while renovations to the main campus building and science lab received over $3.8 million. At Portage College, replacing air handling units will receive $275, 000 and replacement of chilled water distribution lines will be funded $850, 000. Keyano College’s Barrier-free Accessibility and Life Health Safety Systems Renewal will be the recipient of $1.150 million.
   
“Our government is investing in research and training facilities at campuses across the country to create jobs, help our economy recover quickly and improve the quality of life for Canadians,” said Mr. Jean. “This investment is promoting local employment now and will provide the infrastructure our post secondary institutions need for years to come.”

As part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan, the Government of Canada introduced the Knowledge Infrastructure Program, a $2-billion economic stimulus measure to maintain and improve research and training facilities at Canadian universities, colleges and CEGEPs. The program is providing economic stimulus, creating jobs, and generating the advanced technological infrastructure needed to keep Canadian institutions at the forefront of scientific advancement and ensure economic growth in the future.
