Mayor Melissa Blake and Chamber President Mike Allen Visit the Capital
OTTAWA – On November 23, 2006, Wood Buffalo Mayor Melissa Blake and Fort McMurray Chamber of Commerce President Mike Allen appeared before the Standing Committee on Natural Resources to provide testimony on the Committee’s oil sands study.
The Committee’s study, which began this fall, looks at all aspects of oil sands development, including the environmental, economical and societal impacts. “This broad scope of investigation makes Mayor Blake and Mr. Allen the ideal witnesses, as they are incredibly reputable individuals who can provide invaluable insight into the effects of the oil sands on our region,” said Mr. Jean. “I believe the testimony of Mayor Blake and Mr. Allen will prove to be critical evidence to the Committee when drafting their Parliamentary report.”
While in Ottawa, Mayor Blake and Mr. Allen were the honoured guests at Mr. Jean’s “Fort McMurray on the Hill” reception. “I was very proud to have such astute members of my community show witness at the Natural Resources Committee, and even more proud to have them join me for my Ottawa reception,” said Jean. “I want to thank them both for their continued efforts towards the improvement of the quality of life for Wood Buffalo residents. Their endless work and dedication should be applauded.”
