January is Intersection Safety Month
January 09, 2012

In 2010, 61 people were killed and 7,707 people were injured in collisions at intersections in Alberta. Many of these types of collisions are preventable - about 90% of collisions are attributed to driver error.

Tips for Drivers:

  • Watch out for other drivers and pedestrians.
  • Always look before proceeding through intersections, regardless of the traffic light colour.
  • Be prepared for the unexpected and share the road safely.

Tips for Pedestrians:

  • POINT, PAUSE, and PROCEED. Be alert at any intersection and always keep an eye open for dangers when crossing the street.
  • Make eye contact with drivers before you cross the street.
  • Abide by traffic signs and signals. They are in place to protect your safety.

Drive with Care, Caution, Courtesy, and Common Sense.
