Winter arrived in Northern Alberta with its usual panache. Driving can be treacherous and requires that we use some common sense.
- Winterize your vehicle. This is definitely not the time for break downs.
- If you install aftermarket floor mats in your vehicle, make certain they cannot move while driving. In the winter months, be sure that you remove the originally equipped factory floor mats. Use only one set of mats and make certain that the mats do not interfere with the gas or brake pedal before driving the vehicle.
- Make sure your view is clear and your car is cleaned off.
- Give yourself extra time to get where you’re going so you don’t need to rush. If your destination is long distance, check road conditions before you leave. Nothing is worth chancing your family’s safety.
- Make sure you have adequate clothing in case of emergency. Always keep an emergency kit in your trunk. It never hurts to stick an extra blanket in the vehicle.
