FORT McMURRAY – On October 1, 2007, Canada’s New Government released the application form for the ecoAUTO Rebate Program which was announced in Budget 2007. Under the Program, Canadians who have purchased, or entered into a long-term lease for a new, fuel-efficient vehicle as of March 20, 2007, can now apply for rebates of between $1000 and $2000.
This two-year Program encourages Canadians to help the environment by purchasing more fuel-efficient vehicles and is being delivered through a partnership between Transport Canada and Service Canada.
As Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Transport, Infrastructure & Communities, and a member of the special legislative committee that studied the Clean Air Act, MP Brian Jean is very pleased that the application form is now available.
“The impact of the ecoAUTO program works towards securing Canada’s future prosperity and competitiveness by making critical transportation infrastructure sustainable, both economically and environmentally,” said Mr. Jean. He added that, “With programs such as ecoAUTO, our Conservative Government is raising the bar on the protection of our environment with an ambitious and realistic agenda to protect the health of Canadians and the air we breathe.”
The list of eligible 2006 and 2007 vehicles currently posted on the Transport Canada website includes some hybrid electric vehicles and highly energy-efficient vehicles. The list of eligible 2008 vehicles will be posted on the Transport Canada website in the coming weeks.
The application form is available on the Internet at www.ecoaction.gc.ca/ecoauto, at vehicle dealers, by calling the ecoAUTO toll free number at 1-866-506-6804, or by visiting any Service Canada Centre to download and print the form.
