OTTAWA, ONTARIO – Today, Brian Jean, MP for Fort McMurray – Athabasca, joined his colleagues from coast to coast to coast in returning to Ottawa for the beginning of the fall session of the 40th Parliament. The coming weeks promise an exciting and ambitious start to a very busy session, and Mr. Jean is ready to get to work.
“I have had a great summer in Northern Alberta and it has been a pleasure to meet and speak with so many constituents and community leaders throughout our region. From formal meetings to celebratory barbeques, from Canada Day parades to casual one-on-ones, it has been enlightening and invaluable to hear your position on the issues,” said Mr. Jean. “It is a privilege to return to Parliament with a refreshed understanding of the concerns of Northern Albertans. I will continue to ensure that your voices are heard in Ottawa and do my best to bring more funding and recognition to our municipalities and communities.”
Economic growth remains the top priority of Canadians and the Conservative Government. With help from Canada’s Economic Action Plan, Canadians are recovering from the economic downturn, but while many are getting back on their feet, the recovery is still fragile. Since last July, close to 430,000 new jobs have been created, and the Government continues to focus on maintaining jobs, security and prosperity for families and communities. Over the coming months, the Government’s actions will be guided by three bold principles:
- Supporting job creation and economic growth
- Keeping communities, streets and families safe from terrorism and crime; and
- Mapping the path to economic recovery, re-growth and jobs for Canadians.
“As ever, we will continue to keep your taxes low, help create jobs, fight for safer streets and deliver for hard-working Canadians,” said Mr. Jean. “The Harper Government believes in the Canadian people and I am very proud to be a part of it. I am excited to return to Parliament to work harder than ever to continue to improve the quality of life for the people of Northern Alberta.”
