Member’s Statement in the House of Commons: Fort McMurray – Athabasca Pride
May 08, 2009
Mr. Speaker,

When people ask me what we have to offer in my riding of Fort McMurray – Athabasca, I am very proud to say that Northern Alberta takes pride in having:

1.A Canadian Heritage River – The Clearwater River;
2.The largest lake in Alberta – Lake Athabasca;
3.A protected UNESCO World Heritage Site – Wood Buffalo National Park;
4.One of North America’s oldest trade routes;
5.One of the largest natural bison herds in the world;
6.The last wild nesting area of the whooping crane;
7.Falcon nesting sites;
8.Salt plains;
9.The largest non-desert sand dunes in the world;
10. The best fall blueberries you’ve ever tasted; and
11. The hardest working people in Canada.

Mr. Speaker,

Northern Alberta is not only oil sands and the economic engine of Canada.  It is also breathtaking, pristine, protected Canadian wilderness; a place which my constituents and I are all proud to call home.
