Plamondon RInC Announcement
November 10, 2009
Good afternoon.

I am very pleased to be here today with on behalf of our Government, Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, and the Prime Minister of Canada.
To be sure that Canada comes out of the current global recession stronger than ever, our Government has been taking concrete, effective steps to stimulate our economy through the Economic Action Plan.
As of September 28, just 6 months into this fiscal year, 90 per cent of the Plan has been committed.
Our priorities have been focused on doing everything we can to deliver timely, targeted and affordable support to the Canadian workers, families and businesses who need it most
So, I am very pleased to be here today to announce that the Government is taking another step by announcing this Recreational Infrastructure Funding of $ 33,290 for the arena here in Plamondon.
This project will allow the village to replace the ice-making plant, repair the roof, and replace the fire suppression system in the arena.
This project will be funded through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, or RinC and, as of September 28, 2009, $138 million in recreational infrastructure funding has been committed to projects across the country.
We recognize that recreational facilities – such as local playgrounds, hockey rinks, gyms, and tennis courts and sports fields – are at the heart of Canadian communities …
This funding will go a long way toward increasing the healthy and safe recreational options available to families, children and youth in their neighbourhoods

I am proud to be part of a government that uniquely understands and is profoundly influenced by Western Canadian political culture – a belief in being fair to all regions, and in building communities in a way that also encourages private initiative and personal responsibility.

These investments demonstrate how significantly my colleagues and I, and the Prime Minister himself, are eager to invest in a strong, economically and socially vibrant Northern Alberta.

By making investments, like this one in Plamondon, we are seizing opportunities to revitalize our communities, while helping the economy, creating jobs, and ensuring that when the recovery comes, our communities will emerge stronger than ever.  Together we are working to build a stronger West for a stronger Canada.

Thank you !
