Township of Chamberlain, ISF and BCF Announcements
February 02, 2010
MPP Ramsay, Reeve Dickenson, honoured guests, ladies and gentlemen:
Good afternoon.  Bonjour.
I am happy to be here today with MPP Ramsay, Reeve Dickinson, and all of you, as we celebrate the official opening of the new public works garage for the Township of Chamberlain, and the completion of improvements to Wawbewawa Road.
It is truly an exciting day for Chamberlain, for its residents, and for members of neighbouring communities.
One of the best parts of my job is seeing how key infrastructure projects such as these ones benefit our communities. Our Government is focused on the economy, creating jobs and providing economic stimulus — exactly what Canadians want and expect.
In Canada’s Economic Action Plan, our government committed to accelerating and expanding our 33-billion-dollar Building Canada plan by announcing an additional 12 billion dollars in new infrastructure spending.

Across all of its funds, Infrastructure Canada has now committed close to 9 billion dollars towards over 5,300 infrastructure projects as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
When combined with the contributions of our funding partners, there is more than 25.1 billion dollars committed to infrastructure projects across the country, much of which will be spent from 2009 to 2011!
This government is working quickly to provide cleaner water, safer roads and bridges, improved waste management systems and better recreation and municipal facilities, because we recognize the key role that these projects play in encouraging local economic growth and maintaining our high standard of living.
We are proud to contribute more than $100,000 dollars from the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund for your new public works garage.
And I’m happy to see that the garage is already in use.
Plus, with the help of $48,300 dollars in federal support from the Communities Component of the Building Canada Fund, some four kilometers of Waw-be-wawa Road have been resurfaced.
This helps make the road safer and helps your town to save in maintenance and fuel costs.
During these challenging economic times, the federal and provincial governments are working together with municipalities like Chamberlain to build the infrastructure communities need for a strong and bright future.
As we enter the second phase of our Government’s Economic Action Plan, our priority will continue to be the rapid and effective implementation of our plan to benefit communities, workers and businesses.

At the same time, we are already looking ahead to future challenges, which include reducing the deficit once our economy is fully recovered, and building a strong foundation for job creation and our economic future.
Our government will continue to work with our provincial and municipal partners to build a stronger country by delivering infrastructure funding to communities across our province.
Thank you again for having me here today. I look forward to talking with some of you after the event.
Thank you. Merci.
