MP Brian Jean re-appointed as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities
November 07, 2008
OTTAWA, Ontario – Prime Minister Stephen Harper today appointed a new team of Parliamentary Secretaries who will have the responsibility for helping guide the Government’s agenda in the House of Commons.

“In a time of global economic instability, it is essential that the government’s legislative responsibilities are managed consistently and competently,” said the Prime Minister. “Today, we are appointing a team of Parliamentary Secretaries with the right combination of skills and experience to ensure our governing agenda remains on track.”

Brian Jean, Member of Parliament for Fort McMurray-Athabasca, was today re-instated as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, the Honourable John Baird.  MP Jean was first appointed to this post by Prime Minister Harper in 2006 under the Honourable Lawrence Cannon.

“I am truly honoured to have been re-appointed as Parliamentary Secretary and look forward to working with Minister Baird on this portfolio,” says Jean.  “In this current economic climate, the responsibility of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities will become more important than ever for Canadians and I don’t believe there is a portfolio that is more important for my constituents in Northern Alberta.  This responsibility is not taken lightly and that is why I pledged today to work hard for Canadians in this endeavour.”

Parliamentary Secretaries are responsible for assisting members of the Cabinet with their parliamentary responsibilities. As part of these responsibilities, Parliamentary Secretaries frequently represent their Minister in Parliamentary committees and work closely with Members of Parliament in the House of Commons.

“When Parliament resumes, our government will act decisively to protect Canadian families and businesses during this global storm,” said the Prime Minister. “Serving as a Parliamentary Secretary is a big responsibility, and I have tremendous confidence that this is the right team for the job.”
