July 14, 2008
PLAMONDON, Alberta – The Francophone community of Plamondon will receive increased services in French, thanks to an investment by the Government of Canada. Brian Jean, Member of Parliament (Fort McMurray–Athabasca), on behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Secretary of State (Asia–Pacific Gateway) (2010 Olympics) (Official Languages), today announced funding for the Association canadienne-française de l’Alberta, régionale de Plamondon–Lac La Biche. Funding of $55,000 dollars will support the Association’s 2008–2009 programming, which is designed to enhance the vitality of the Francophone community. The Association will address several community sectors, including media, arts and culture, the economy, education, heritage, and history. “The Government of Canada is committed to ensuring the prosperity of minority Francophone and Anglophone communities and to recognizing the importance of linguistic duality as an economic, social, and cultural asset for all Canadians,” said Secretary of State Moore. “Our Government is demonstrating its commitment to supporting the vitality of the Francophone communities of northeastern Alberta,” said Mr. Jean. “Through their commitment and resolve, the Association canadienne-française de l’Alberta, régionale de Plamondon–Lac La Biche is ensuring the continued vitality and growth of the entire community.” “L’ACFA régionale de Plamondon–Lac La Biche would like to thank Canadian Heritage for its $55,000 contribution for our 2008 fiscal year,” said Leo Piquette, President of the Association. “Our programming aims to help our culture and our visibility flourish in this region of 2000 Francophones.” This Government of Canada has provided this funding through the Department of Canadian Heritage’s Development of Official-Language Communities Program, Cooperation with the Community Sector component. By encouraging innovation and excellence, this program supports the involvement of organizations and reinforces their ability to take action towards making measurable gains in long-term community development. |
