Dear Editor,
Every day, hundreds of thousands of Canadians go to work, and through their efforts, help make their communities and their country a better place. Today, with the looming economic slowdown in the United States, it is more important than ever that real action is taken to ensure that Canada's economy stays strong.
This means having a Government that gets Canada's fiscal fundamentals right. This means ensuring that more businesses are encouraged to invest, expand and create new jobs. And it also means that the Government show real leadership by reducing the tax burden on Canadians so they can keep more of what they earn.
On all three counts, I believe that Prime Minister Stephen Harper and our Government are delivering real leadership and real results.
Today, the Federal Budget is balanced and $37 billion is being paid against our national debt. Business taxes are being reduced to encourage more businesses to become more productive, expand, and create jobs. The GST and personal income taxes have been cut. This tax relief is not only the right thing to do, it also gives our economy a shot in the arm by putting more money in the pockets of consumers.
With focused priorities, lower taxes, and balanced budgets, the Harper Government is ensuring that more Canadians can build a career and pursue their dreams right here at home.
While the Conservative Government is delivering results, Stéphane Dion and the Liberals are peddling a different option. They have decided that a time of record gas prices and economic uncertainty is a perfect time to sneak in a massive so called “carbon tax” that will punish Canadians with higher prices on gas, electricity and everything else we buy. By sneaking in this massive new tax, Mr. Dion will also undermine Canada’s economy and put thousands of jobs at risk.
When it comes to sound management of the economy, the choice is clear. Prime Minister Harper and our Conservative Government are delivering balanced budgets and lower taxes to keep Canada growing and strong.
Sincerely,
Brian Jean
