Member of Parliament Brian Jean honours volunteer efforts

FORT McMURRAY, Alberta – Our country and our communities depend on the hard work and selflessness of its citizens. On Saturday May 24th, Brian Jean, Member of Parliament for Fort McMurray - Athabasca recognized the efforts of Mr. Dave Kirschner of Fort McMurray with the 2008 Member of Parliament Volunteer of the Year Award for his generous dedication of time and energy towards the betterment of his community.

“An incredible amount of work goes into making a community flourish,” said MP Jean. “Mr. Kirschner has been a dedicated community volunteer for many years and through this active role has proven his determination to making our community better and our country stronger.”

Mr. Kirschner and his wife, Iris, continue to be involved in many aspects of the Northern Alberta community including their work with various local charities, groups, and community projects. They have also been steadfast in their support of initiatives such as The Spring Clean-Up, The Keyano Theatre and The Oilsands Music Festival among others.

Mr. Kirschner is presently a member of the Northern Alberta Development committee, the Regional Issues Working Group, and Abram's Land Steering Committee which is responsible for new land development for three places of worship and a long-term care facility. He is also a long-standing member of the Fort McMurray Chamber of Commerce and a founding member of the Fort McMurray Food Bank.

With a long list of projects supported, awards received and accolades given, Mr. Kirschner clearly demonstrates a love for his community and his desire to make it the best that it can be. It is evident that this newest award and recognition of dedication with not be the last.
