Fort McMurray Students Welcomed by MP Brian Jean at Canada-Wide Science Fair

Ottawa – The week of May 10 – 18th is an exciting one for Canada’s young scientists as over 450 students and 200 adults from across the country congregate in Ottawa for the 2008 Canada-Wide Science Fair. Member of Parliament, Brian Jean, was extremely honoured to visit the Science Fair held at the University of Ottawa, and to meet two remarkable students from Fort McMurray, Rachel Bonney and Disha Shah, who were chosen as winners in the Wood Buffalo Regional Science Fair.

“I had the pleasure of learning a little bit about both projects and was very impressed with both Rachel’s and Disha’s aptitude, originality, and accomplishments. I am proud of them and glad that they were able to come all the way to Ottawa to represent Northern Alberta. I wish them good luck and congratulations!” said MP Jean.

Rachel Bonney from St. Gabriel School did a project on “Rotting Body” about the effects of smoking, and Disha Shah from Westwood High School presented “Understanding the Immune System”.
Rachel and Disha were accompanied by Andrew Taylor, President of the Board of Directors of the Wood Buffalo Regional Science Fair and Dr. Vincella Thompson, who is the Treasurer. Both Andrew and Vincella are instructors at Keyano College in Fort McMurray.
