Brian Jean Welcomes Colleagues to Northern Alberta
September 09, 2010

FORT MCMURRAY, ALBERTA  – This afternoon, Brian Jean, Member of Parliament for Fort McMurray – Athabasca, will welcome thirteen Conservative MPs to Northern Alberta for an informative and fun-filled visit.  Mr. Jean extended the formal invitation to the Conservative Caucus in June and is extremely pleased with the response.

“I believe it is important for elected leaders from right across our country to understand the magnitude, opportunities and challenges of the oilsands industry,” said Mr. Jean.  “But it is also important for everyone to recognize that Northern Alberta is about more than just the oilsands.  Our region is a huge contributor to Canada’s economy, and also of great importance to the Canadian people.  I’m very pleased that so many of my colleagues are able to come and gain a greater understanding of the issues facing Northern Albertans.”

Mr. Jean is determined to continue to promote Northern Alberta as an economic success story for a wide variety of industries including oil and gas, agriculture, forestry and also as a stunning tourist destination for those wishing to explore the untouched wilderness.

Visiting MPs will spend tomorrow morning touring the region by helicopter and the afternoon enjoying a river boat trip up the Clearwater River.  Tomorrow evening they will attend a Fundraising Dinner hosted by the Fort McMurray – Athabasca Conservative Electoral District Association, which is expected to be well-attended by community leaders and local residents.
