Government of Canada Invests in the North Country Fair
June 15, 2010
JOUSSARD, Alberta – On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, Brian Jean, Member of Parliament (Fort McMurray–Athabasca), today announced funding for the Lesser Slave Lake North Country Community Association. This funding will help the Association present the 32nd annual North County Fair from June 18 to 20. Organizers will offer 30 performances of folk and new music, and circus acts by Aboriginal groups. These emerging and culturally diverse artists and performers originate from seven provinces and territories, the United States, Mexico, and as far away as Wales. These activities will provide residents with access to artists’ work that reflects the rich cultural diversity of Canadian communities, and will give them the opportunity to benefit from a wide range of artistic experiences. “The Government of Canada recognizes the importance of supporting festivals, and the vital role they play in strengthening our communities,” said Minister Moore. “Events like the North Country Fair ensure that Canadians can have cultural experiences that enrich their lives and provide them with opportunities to explore different artistic styles.” “Thanks to the Lesser Slave Lake North Country Community Association dedication, residents of the Drift Pile area will be able to enjoy the 32nd annual North County Fair and all the performances that it will showcase,” said Mr. Jean. “On behalf of the Lesser Slave Lake North Country Community Association and the coordinators and volunteers of the North Country Fair, I extend our grateful thanks for the support from the Government of Canada,” said Carol Weatherall, Artistic Director of the North Country Fair. “These funds will allow us to continue our goal to bring quality, diverse entertainment to the people of Northern Alberta.” The Government of Canada has provided funding of $15,000 through the Canada Arts Presentation Fund of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program gives Canadians increased access to the variety and richness of Canada’s culture through professional arts festivals, presentations of live professional performances, and other artistic experiences. |
